check engine light
I just bought a Mazda with 958 miles on it. I have had it two days and the check engine light came on, The mazda dealers did not have time to look at it till next Tueday, So I stopped at another place and they checked it and it gives a code of PO455 It said loose or Defective gas cap. Or EVAP canister Broke, Or Vacuum leak at engine.
I have only driven it 2 days, less than 200 miles?
Frustrated I didn't want to buy a car that I am going to have problems with, I thought by the research I had done that it would be a good car. I guess I will drive my infiniti instead until someone has time to look at it.

owww.. that hurts right.. you can't use the car until it is checked.
The P0455 is an evaporative leak. That is, the car is equipt with a closed fuel system so no vapors escape. This could be as easy as the gas cap not being tight or a loose hose or a defective hose. You could disconnect the battery for five minutes to clear the code and then make sure the cap is tight before you reconnect it. Drive it and see if the code is gone.

The days of disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes as an easy fix are long gone as far as new models go. That code is stored in a harddrive type of memory with keep alive memory battery source that will last much longer than 5 minutes. There are procedures for killing KAM or keep alive memory but without knowledge of the exact model I would hesitate to give it.
Being a p0455 and how commonly it turns out to be a loose or unsecure gas cap, I wouldnt hesitate to drive the vehicle unless you smell fuel vapors around the vehicle. Check your gascap first and so long as it is secure I wouldnt worry too much. If you list the model of mazda you bought there are probably a bunch of mazda techs here that could offer you the common issues on current models. Enjoy that new mazda!!!
