Just bought an 07 CX9 Grand Touring with 227K. Test drove it fairly thoroughly. Purchased it, drove about 5 miles to the interstate then about 30 miles on interstate at 75mph, drove well. Got off the interstate, about 3 miles of side road and something seemed off. Going uphill for another 3 miles towards home, it didn't want to go too well. My driveway is slightly downhill, if I take my foot off the throttle the car came to a stop as if I was braking. Took it out for a local drive, after about 15 minutes, same thing. Took it to the mechanic, he says the transmission is junk, simply by driving it. I realize the vehicle is old and high mileage, not blaming the car or Mazda, just trying to figure out if I should take it to the junk yard. Any thoughts on treatment or alternative diagnosis?
