SOS, smartkey dead!
Hi,
I took my family on Saturday to San Francisco . It was a beautiful trip until my car's key just refused to open the doors (I only have the smartkey.. the key, which comes with it got lost a few years ago). I changed the battery of the 4 button smartkey of my 2008 CX-9.. still no luck. No red light comes on when I press the lock/unlock. I called Mazda roadside and they sent a service operator who could open the doors but still that was of no use since the car would not start with the dead smartkey. Eventually I left the car in the public garage, took a cab and came home. What are my options? I hope I can find a solution without bringing my car to a dealership, because that would mean getting it towed.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated!
Regards.

I don't know if this would work, but re-set the computer in the car by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery followed by a few brake applications and honking of horn to make sure all current is dissipated. Wait 10 minutes.
Re-hook it up. Start engine and let idle for 10 minutes before driving. Re-learning has begun for next 50-100 miles.
