Just pulled the trigger on a 2021 cx9 gt

anything I should watch out for?
should I consider extended warranty?
thought it should be reliable and needed something bigger

canadian here, car comes with unlimited mileage warranty 3 for comprehensive, 5 for power train
will be keeping it as long as I can

 

Congrats Mike. I too have a 2021 and the only two issues I had were:

1. Incorrect alignment - initially just a steering wheel biased to the left but it turned out alignment was off too.
2. Media head unit had older firmware - Couldn't get Android Auto to work due to outdated firmware.

Both fixed by the dealer for free. Other than those two, it performs like a champ.

 

Should I go direct to rustproofing shop?

how is long term reliability on engine, transmission, suspension and steering?

 

My 2016 has been great...been to the dealer twice, first for the free oil change that dealer offered, second for a service program to replace a squeaky rear spring. I see no need for an extended warranty. I don't think we've heard of anyone here who would have benefited from an extended warranty. Save your money.

One should only buy the extended warranty offered by the car maker if they choose to buy one, not from a 3rd party company. In Canada it is, "Mazda Added Protection (MAP) plans to protect you against unexpected repair costs. MAP works in conjunction with your specified new vehicle warranty for up to 7 years or 200,000 km. With it you are covered for services over and above your existing warranty." Note than they never called these products extended warranties. They call them plans. Under U.S. law, and probably similar Canadian law, they are not warranties. They are prepaid repair contracts. In the U.S. the consumer has more rights under warranty law than under contract law.

Consider the extended repair contract to be peace of mind insurance. If you will sleep better, consider it. Any Mazda dealership can offer it, so check around for the best price. Me, I sleep better with that money in my bank account.
