Different key fob misery
I have a strange or maybe not so strange issue. The key fob on my 2009 cx9 is broken and quit working changed the battery and everything the thing is dead. So I thought ok ill look online and get a new one. I begin searching and I've noticed that none of the keyphobs match what I have. I have the keyless start and the only thing the comes up is the credit card looking one. But the one I have looks to be from the 2017 model year. My question is witch one should I get both are about the same price but im not sure what will work. They say online that the credit card type is for my model year but it doesn't look like the one I've been using and the one that looks like my old key isn't for my model year. What the heck is going on. I bought the car used so I have no clue what type of key came with it and I don't want to spend $100 plus on something that won't work. Have any of you run into this. Also do yall know of a good 3rd party after marketing key fob that will work.? I need a keyless start and a remote start fob.
A quick online search for your model year's key fob returns the credit card style. HOWEVER, there are other types that show up as compatible (third party or OEM maybe?) which leads me to think that the previous owner may have lost and/or swapped out the original with the newer model fobs - which seem to work - as in your case.
You may want to check with a Mazda service department to verify that newer style fobs work with your CX-9 model year. If they say it does not, then it's possible that the one you have now is not OEM. In which case, you should be able to purchase a non-OEM that looks just like the one you have but works with a 2009.

Maybe your car model is 2010 not 2009. I have a 2010 cx-9 and the fob looks like the newer models. If this is the case than you should search for a 2010 model keyfob with a matching FCC ID as your fob
