Default Cx-9 ride quality

We purchased a 2010 CX-9 AWD Grand Touring about 6 months ago. The one thing that is a constant thorn in my side is the ride quality. I changed out the stock tires (Bridgestone Dueller HL 400's) and put on Yokahama Parada Spec-X's. That improved the ride quite a bit, but now that I'm used to the change - I'm still disappointed overall. I test drove an AWD model that had the 18" tires on it (Dueller's) and I wasn't impressed. It seemed bouncier than the 20's I've got. I realize the Dueller 400's are rated consistently as crappy at all things, so I'm not sure that I shouldn't be considering going to a smaller rim to get more tire cushion. Any thoughts? Can anyone recommend a shock that would improve the ride quality greatly? I'm willing to sacrifice the handling in order to get a smooth ride. This is a family car for us, and even when I'm driving alone - this car rarely makes me feel like taking a corner tight.

Thanks for any advice.
