2010 cx9 AWD engine shuts off while driving

2010 cx9 AWD engine shuts off while driving
Bought new. 40k miles. Has happened a half dozen times under normal operating. Scary and dangerous. Coast over to shoulder, put tranny in P, turn key off then on and engine restarts like nothing happened. Occurs about once every 2 months. Off warranty. Thoughts?
