Default Keyless ignition **** won't turn

We bought a 2007 Mazda CX-7 for our son, and it has given us all kinds of trouble. It's newest trick this morning is that the **** to turn the car on won't turn. We tried it both with the key fob (the normal way) and with the spare actual key. It won't budge at all. Any ideas about what might be wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.

Are you twisting/turning the steering wheel to release the steering lock?

Default Ended up being the key fob

What we initially tried was wiggling the steering wheel and making sure it was in park. When that didn't work, we thought it might be the battery. After work, when I had more time to deal with it, I tried starting it with the remote starter, which worked. Then we had it narrowed down to the key fob or something more major. My son wiggled the battery in the key fob, and we were able to turn the ****. My question now is why couldn't we turn the ignition **** when we used the actual key? If the key fob decides to stop working, is there something we can do so he can use the actual key instead of the fob? We have a second fob, but it has never worked for us (even after we changed the battery).

Default I tried this

That happened to me. Every so often the key would pop out of the key fob so I ended up putting scotch tape to hold it in place. When the ignition won't turn, I discovered that pushing and holding the taped in key farther into the key fob then turning the ignition, works and the car starts.
This is what works for me. Hope it helps someone else.
