Unhappy Foggy Tail lamp/overheating bulb CX7 2009

Hello from Australia.
I have a 2009 CX7 2009 ER SUV 2.3 MZR DISI Turbo AWD. Great car at 130,000.

So my friend was following us and said my brake light was not working on passenger side. I checked and it is working but the inner lens is foggy at the top.
Investigating further I pulled out the brake light bulb to find it covered in melted RED plastic. Both LHS and RHS bulbs are over heating the one on LHS is very badly melted. The purple pen shows the hole melted in the inner lens.
The bulbs are standard T20 7443 12V 21/5W.

1. Anyone else with foggy lenses should check this. Ive reported this to Aust authorities as I think its a safety concern. I have seen quite a few comments on internet regarding foggy/frosted lamp assemblies. There is no safety recall here in Australia. Anyone aware of Mazda feedback on this issue?
2. Anyone else had this issue of melted plastic?
3. While the brake light switch appears to be OK I wonder if the lights are staying on excessively (switch is faulty) which is a little hard to determine whilst driving :O)... Thoughts on faulty switch please?

Appreciate your input.

Cheers Adam.

Common problem.

Cheapest fix is to fit Red bulbs.
