Question What to buy?

Hi! New to the forum here but solid Mazda fan. I have purchased 3 new Mazda's, a 2004 Mazda3, a 2010 Mazda3 and a 2016 Mazda CX5. I have had wonderful ownership experiences with my Mazda's and honestly they have been the most dependable cars I've ever owned. About every 4-5 years, I get what I call "car fever" and feel like I want something new. I've been thinking about a new Mazda CX5 Signature which would be a nice step up from my current Grand Touring model with the turbo engine to give some extra umph! However, I'm a car person and am pretty picky. I don't like what I consider "plain" colors like black, while, gray or silver and want something that sort of stands out in the crowd. My current car is Soul Red with the ivory interior and loaded with all options available at the time and I have loved it. I really would love to upgrade with a new car, but here are my concerns:

1 - My current car is paid off and only has 42,000 miles. It's been bulletproof but it's time to buy new tires and maybe do some other maintenance so do I spend money on that or use that for a down payment on a new car? Plus, it's actually worth something as a trade in now if I decide to do that.
2 - The only color I would buy being a picky person, is soul red so it would look very similar to what I already have. I wish Mazda had more colors to choose from, like Cadillac has a beautiful blue color that has shades of green in it.
3 - I would want to the Signature trim, but am not totally crazy about the brown color of the interior. I feel like the darker color interior makes the car feel smaller to me.
4 - Not crazy about the current wheel design on the CX5. While the Signature trim has larger wheels, the design is similar to the lesser models which have smaller wheels, but it's not noticeably different. Plus, not crazy about the color of the wheels either as I'm old enough to remember when wheels looked grey it was because of brake dust build up.
5 - If I'm spending more for the Signature trim, I would like it to be a bit more noticeable than the lesser models.

As I live in Chicago and have to park on the street, I don't want a huge car, but wish that there was a bit more room in the back seat. It's usually just me and maybe one other person in my car, but I do have teenage kids who are already taller than me (at 5'10") and aren't done growing, so when they're with me it's a bit cramped in the back seat for them.

I have been waiting to see what the 2020 CX5 is going to look like, hoping that they may offer a different wheel design and maybe a few other options like more color choices especially for the interior. I totally love the CX9 Signature interior, but think that the car being 20 inches longer than the CX5 is almost too big for street parking but I haven't ruled that model out (other than the Signature trim only comes in silver, black, white and grey). Plus, I can find a 2019 CX9 Signature with like 6,000 miles on it for the same price as a new CX5. I just wish that Mazda had something in between the CX5 and CX9 (like a CX7 if you're listening Mazda).

I test drove a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate which was really nice, has extra room (10 inches bigger than the CX5), and comes in additional colors (I love the blue and orange colors they have), and the interior has features that the CX5 doesn't like a pano sunroof, wireless phone charger, and extra safety features, for about the same price. I just have a hard time picturing myself driving a Hyundai.

I'm likely going to test drive a 2019 CX5, and maybe a CX9, this weekend so that might answer my questions. Anyone else in my position where you don't need to trade cars but you'd like something new, wish the CX5 was just a bit bigger with a few more choices like colors, and/or considering potential other auto brands?

What would you do? Wait for the 2020's to come out, go ahead and get the 2019 and take advantage of Mazda's great sales offers right now, just keep the car I have and spend a few bucks on tires and keep it for another year or two, consider a used CX9 instead, or go with another brand and if so, what would you choose?

I know, it's a stupid dilemma and I'm fortunate to have this as my issue. Still, interested in getting your thoughts. Thanks for any replies!

Default Signature Edition

We've now had our 2019 Signature Edition for about 6 months. I'm very pleased, and find it is the equal of our BMW X3 M40i in most respects. I was initially not in love with the interior color, but it has grown on me, Try taking a close look on a bright, sunny day.

The 2020 models are supposed to be minimally different, and I'd go with the 2019 that you're considering. To put the price in perspective, we paid $36,600 with no trade for ours. I felt this wasn't a great deal, but the car is a major bargain at that price, IMHO!
