Trunk light won’t turn off with lift gate

Trunk light won’t turn off with lift gate

any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Lift gate is closed supposed to turn the trunk light off but mine stays on. This makes the light manually operated instead

Isn't there a switch in the back to manually turn the light on and off? What position is that switch in?

3-pos switch. On - auto - off.
