Question Transmission reliability on CX-5 2014 thru 2016

We are considering buying a Mazda CX-5 FWD automatic either used or new. We are reluctant to pull the trigger due to several complaints that have been filed on the NHTSA website related to transmission failures. Are the transmissions basically the same in the 2014 thru 2016 models? Also interested in hearing any good or bad stories on this vehicle. Would also like to know if Mazda has fixed the design flaw related to the front windshields cracking too easily. Thanks

Transmissions seem to be ok, not perfect, but no new technology is 100%
I've never seen a CX-5 with a cracked windscreen. ( I think its a beat up)

I've had a 2016 CX-5 for almost a year now and my only complaint is it does have a bit of a rough ride. The steering is tight and the car handles well, but it is bumpy.

Still looking for input regarding the 6 speed automatic transmission used on 2014 thru 2016 CX5 models? Are they basically the same design/ technology all 3 years?

The transmission hasn't been changed since the inception of the CX-5 in 2012. Is that all you want to know?

That is good news. My guess is that they have worked any bugs out by now. Thanks

The SkyActiv 6AT was a solid design from the get-go. There have been a few component and/or software glitches along the way and even a few complete trans replacements, but these problems have been pretty random in frequency and most owners learn to love the gearbox after they adjust to its unique qualities. Most notably, the motoring press had a few weird reactions to it in early road tests, but it's hard to find a journalist these days who doesn't sing its praises. And they have made incremental improvements to the design, such as Sport mode which alters shift points and throttle response fairly dramatically for spirited driving.
