Trans/Diff change Interval
Now that I learned that I am not sure I would have named it WD40. I mean it took 40 times to get it right (for the time period)_and why would want your preceptive users to know that? LOL
I am sure many of us just remember our grandfather or dad telling us to oil our bicycle chain with WD40 LOL

Thanks, Grim. I'm a bit confused due to my ignorance about gear oil. I always thought gear oil was gear oil but now I'm seeing this word "Hypoid" attached to the Mazda spec. I assume it's important???
You need to check your specific vehicle owner's manual.
Most models and years use the following.
Manual transaxle oil: API Service GL-4 SAE 75W-80
Automatic transaxle fluid: Mazda Original Oil ATF-FZ
Transfer case oil Mazda: Long Life Hypoid Gear Oil SG1
Rear differential oil: Mazda Long Life Hypoid Gear Oil SG1

Here's one of those gear oil "alternatives" I found. I don't know if this is an acceptable alternative or not. Unless someone knows something I don't I'll stick with the Mazda products.
It's $33.50 on Amazon
But most Mazda dealers sell it for about $25 a quart.

I see both the trans case and rear diff take .48 qts each. But then you add up spillage and whatever else and I'll need two quarts to get the job done. As for the tranny fluid, I'm just doing a drain and fill (+ filter change), no flush so I'm guessing about 3 quarts??? Capacity according to my manual is 7.5 qts and in my experience drain and fills usually replace less than half the fluid. Thinking a gallon should cover it. Has this been your experience?
I no longer DIY I use my local tech or the dealer but that should be about right.
