New owner here, recently picked up '25 CX5. I'm going to add a trailer hitch as I have a motorcycle trailer(1200# loaded). Debating aftermarket vs Mazda hitch which is a cleaner install.

My question is about the wiring. I was looking at the Curt plug-n-play four wire adapter but it requires running a 12v lead all the way up to the battery, not such an easy task without a lift. Has anyone used a generic 4-wire adapter that doesn't require a new circuit? Bonus points if it's plug-n-play so I don't have to tap into stock harness? My trailer lighting is all LED if that plays into the load equation.

 

Safe yourself time and money and get the OEM hitch which is plug and play and a great hitch that looks good.
The cost for my 2020 plus install, would have been no more than any aftermarket one.
As part of my purchase the dealer agreed they would purchase/install it free of charge.
Basically, because my trade in hade a hitch on it as well.

 

Update: I may have found the answer in the archives It seems there should be a 12v power at the left taillight specifically for trailer connection. I haven't pulled anything apart to check yet, so still asking if anyone has first hand knowledge...

 

Make sure that there is a dedicated fuse in the fuse box under the hood for that or at least look for what fuse will protect it in the case of a short !! If you have trailered long enough that is not an uncommon fuse to blow. So have spares and know where it is.
