Goodyear didn’t make a fuss when I pointed out the wrong tire problem, although they did say the wrong (smaller) tires would work fine. Of course, the speedo would be off as the tires would be getting nearly 7% more revolutions per mile.
It takes a few miles of driving for the rotation sensors to process the data and determine that there is a significant difference, so it not showing up immediately is par for the course, Even on my other two vehicles which have the TPMS units in the wheels, you have to drive a few miles. If the pressure loss is significant enough to cause damage to the tire by driving that distance, you would probably notice it in the handling or steering well before the TPMS system determined it.

TPMS is an aid, but not a substitute for checking your tire pressure periodically. I do it monthly and have it marked on my calendar to remind me.

Goodyear said the tire pressure monitor strictly uses tire pressure and not any difference in how one tire spins differently from the other three.

Let's hope this saga is over.

That must be a change to the late 2014 models.

Nope, they're wrong and you're right. See Mazda CX-5 Owners Manual - Tire Pressure Monitoring System - When Driving

Thanks

Well, I guess I'm not quite senile yet.

True, but it is interesting that on my '19 MX-5, there are sensors in all wheels.

I knew they changed for the later models, but I think the first one was 2016. Interestingly enough, my 2013 MX5 Club has them in all four wheels as well. The advantage with using the ABS instead of four sensors is that you don't have to pay to replace them every few years.
