Default stiff steering, is it normal?

hi there. I have a 2016 cx-5 GT with tech package. is the steering really heavy on this vehicle? I brought it to the dealership and they say it is normal and I will just get use to it. It was not like this as far as I remember when I test drove it. Please advise. thank you.

What kind of steering are you used to? What was your last vehicle? No, I would not consider CX-5 steering "really heavy" by any stretch of the imagination.

paris, I used to drive Honda crv 2010. I also drive the Honda pilot 2016 exl. I just noticed the steering in the pilot is so light to think it is a bigger vehicle compared to my cx-5. do you notice some effort when parking or when maneuvering from a stop? thanks again.

I'm not familiar with steering effort in Honda CUVs, but I suspect it's on the light (read: poor feedback) side. Well-designed steering (even electric setups like Mazda uses) should have some weight and require some effort at low speed, which reduces as speed increases. I would be very surprised if there were something wrong with the steering on your car. It's just not something that's prone to failure.

If you have a real concern with it, stop back in at the dealer and drive another one or two. Compare that to yours. If you find a noticeable difference, have someone from the service dept physically compare them also. As paris stated, there are no real failure concerns or problems with the steering on these vehicles but that's not ruling it completely out.
