My oops!! I suspect, however, there may be some who believe it really is sour red. Anyway, maybe we got lucky putting on the Xpel before there were any paint chips. I do hope that this issue gets resolved soon.

Before you give up on the CX-5 tepid acceleration, try the Turbo model. It does go much better (0-60 in ~6.4 seconds) and responds well at highway speeds too.

As I understand it, there are three versions of Soul Red. My 2014 is the first one. It was the second version that had reported problems. The third, which you would have, seems to be ok as well.

Of course, the clear bra certainly doesn't hurt. I put one on my MX5 as soon as I got it. I have the bug/rock shield on the hood of the CX5 and have had no problems with either.

I believe you that the new CX-5 has quicker acceleration. However, I'm looking to spend a lot of $ to get a Model Y performance. It does 0-60 in ~3.5 seconds. I already have a Model 3, and it does 0-60 in ~4.4 sec. Tesla paint quality is a joke. Perhaps when they start making Teslas in Texas? Hearing that Tesla is limited in the type of base they can use because of California laws. Don't know if it is true or not, but I wouldn't doubt it. Had better paint quality on my old '06 Honda S2000. I just want a fast car.

Cool. Looking to going electric as well, but not soon. Can't justify right now the hit on my budget. But both the Model 3 and Model Y are great cars, will be definitely checking them out when the time comes.

On the other hand, I think we got lucky with our CX-5 soul red. After many road trips and 3rd year of ownership, paint has no issues (knocking on wood).

Default 2020 soul red six months old 17 chips in hood

Never heard any rocks, etc. hit the hood during this trip. The paint seems to be extremely thin. Also there are very fine swirl marks which appear to be beneath the clear coat. Curious if anyone else has had problems with this new paint option. Will be bringing it into the dealership for further evaluation.
my previous 2016 soul read did not develop chips like this 2020 is developing.
I am now in contact with my dealer and a body shop they work with. But I have a feeling they are only going to want to repaint my hood even though I can already see several small chips on the side of the vehicle and there are horrible swirl marks. You can see everywhere I have touched the door handle and the gas cap cover it’s like my fingers actually made marks in the paint

Sorry to hear of this problem and I hope they can take proper care of your car. But I know where I live and travel NE-NJ/NYC, the roads are horrible and there are small bits of gravel and whatnot getting kicked up all the time. That's why I had PPF -XPEL applied to the whole front of the car. But as (bad) luck would have it, driver's side door got pinged by a good size rock and put a dent deep enough to go to bare metal). Regarding swirls - especially on the door handles and gas cap cover, they are very prone to swirls due to being the parts of the car most often touched. Also, when any (and every) car goes through a typical auto car wash swirls are a guaranteed outcome; particularly when they hand dry the car with those microfiber towels.

I'm counting my lucky stars after reading about the red color problems with the 17 and 18 cx-5's. I was looking for a 17 or 18 red cx-5 manual-sadly they were discontinued in 2019. Good luck-could not find one for sale anywhere in Canada. I certainly would have been tempted to get one, but luckily none available. I like the earlier model better, anyway and found a 2016.5 soul red manual in Toronto. Picked it up last Saturday. Close to showroom condition-perfect shape inside and out. I had never driven a cx-5 before-had read it's the most fun, sportiest suv, by far, especially with the manual. Wow, it exceeded my expectations.Perfect size, weight, steering, tight, smooth gearbox. No hill assist gadget or backup camera. I was in heaven. Pure driving. Has cd player-new ones don't have one, I'm told. Only 45000 miles [ I have fahrenheit and miles settings. I'm Canadian but detest metric ] New tires, brakes and battery and snow tires on rims. Paid 12,000 plus tax..Fusspots don't want manuals anymore-good for those that do. Love everything about it. Drives great, looks great. So lucky I couldn't find a 17 or 18!

Default Ceramic coating for my 2021 CX-5 Soul Red

I just bought a new Soul Red GTR with parchment interior. Love it!! I booked an appointment for getting professional ceramic coating (intereeCeramic Pro 9H). I do love the color and definitely would like to protect it. It's not cheap but I'll provide update / pic when complete for those interested and considering same. Also, separately, adding front parking sensors and Class II trailer hitch (at dealer) for bike rack.

Congratulations on a beautiful car. I don't like to tell people how to spend their money, but I think you may want to consider PPF on the front end of your car.
