Smart City Brake Malfunction - New 2016 CX-5
Go to the dealer You got the Mazda from and an experience service “Technician “ or Mazda factory trained mechanic can look at the ECU for error event counters. Keep in mind the dealer is not obligated to do this and may decline the service . Or …
They may charge you for this service as it is not really a warranty covered and is a customer request unless you can convince them to service this on there “dime” to look at this for free. Mazdas contract with the dealer will not likely reimburse them labor time for this.

Not being a wiseass here, but sincere.
Every brand and model can have issues new or used, none are immune.
Used are very dependent on if the owner(s) followed all maintenance procedures and their driving skills or lack thereof.
The information is out there on just about all known issues on any vehicle.
The purchaser (all of us) has the responsibility to do due diligence before buying and you clearly indicate you did not do this (read up on the issue after the fact).
Obviously "due diligence" will only help you for your future purchases.
Generally speaking, 3-month dealership warranties on used vehicles are not very good and if you are like most, I suspect you didn't even read it.
You now have to decide if you want to spend the money to get your vehicle up to proper running order or take the loss.
Unfortunately, only you can answer that.
I sincerely hope you and the dealer find a resolution for this, and it is not just an expensive lesson learned experience for you.
Good luck in whatever direction you go.

The service manager was glad that I'd left the car running when, as he was (a) able to see the warning lights on the dash, and (b) was able to run the diagnostics with the car running.
What set off the SCBS malfunction was a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. There was nothing wrong with the pressures themselves, but the TP warning tripped for some unknown reason, which triggered the SCBS malfunction and disabled the forward SCBS. He reset the tire pressure system, cleaned out the codes and all the lights went back to normal.
He said that if there is an EZpass (toll transponder) located in the upper right corner of where all the lasers/computers/cameras are, the transponder "might" be interfering with the SCBS. There is another SCBS device in the Mazda logo in the front grill; if that gets dirty or something is covering the Mazda logo, that "might" trigger the SCBS to malfunction.
Basically, he didn't know what was going on and hopes it was just the tire pressure issue which dumped the SCBS. He was interested that someone else had had the same problem.

We change wheel bearing literally every week and at least on average 3 in the service shop for customers and do not have that communication issue. but then we never use any part that is not a well-known part manufacture. Also, We always go by the auto manufactures *service guide (no short cuts) (*ALLData professional) for the replacement servicing.
Now DIY and bad mechanics on the other hand they always seem to post on this forum as well other Mazda and different platforms the same troubles after a wheel bearing replacement ... lol
