Default Skyactiv and carbon

Hello,
New member and new owner--2018 -5. Took it in to dealer for an oil change to establish a baseline with known oil. Dealer advised a fuel injector cleaning because "Skyactiv system results in carbon buildup". Sounds suspicious to me, but my CEO and CFO, who had insisted on going to the dealer, was standing by my side, and I didn't question the statement.

Bought used with 13K miles six months ago and now has 16K miles. Usu put about 5K miles/year on our vehicles.

Is this true about Skyactiv? Should I just use injector cleaner in the fuel occasionally?
Didn't see anything definitive in the forums on this subject.
Thanks.

A few comments:
  • While Direct Injection (DI) engines do tend to develop buildup on the backs of the intake valves, no amount of fuel injector cleaner in the world will help prevent the build-up on a DI engine. Why? Because the injector is downstream of the valves, and sprays directly into the cylinder.
  • If your dealer advised to use a fuel injection cleaning service, and if you want to mess with them, tell them to show you in a published Mazda service guide which recommends the service.
  • Assuming they cannot show you such a service recommendation and yet they still recommend the service, ask them to put the recommendation in writing and then have them sign it. If they are bold enough to do so, send a complaint into Mazda USA along with the recommendation.

Shipo is correct, there maybe minor carbon build up on the valves because there injector is no longer before the valve to clean them. No amount of fuel injector cleaner in the fuel will clean the valves.

Sounds bogus to me. And at 16,000 miles??? WTF. Ripoff city. Just use a good quality gasoline if that concerned about it. Tell the dealer no thanks.
