Default Sensors

Looking to purchase a 2021 Touring with 60k miles. Carfax is clean. The non-Mazda dealer says during their inspection that the front crash sensor is not working and needs to be replaced. They are taking it to a Mazda dealer to do the work. Doesn't this mean more than likely the car was involved in some sort of front-end crash for this sensor needing to be replaced? I know all things do go bad but for a 2021 with such low mileage, it seems a bit off that the front crash sensor would no longer be working. Or am I overthinking this?

As for CARFAX not all vehicle accidents are reported.
But to answer your question, yes, there are a host of issues that can cause a failed front crash sensor without an accident.
I would also point out that any sensor can go bad at any time.
If the vehicle was in a front-end crash, you or a qualified technician should be able to find some evidence of that.
