Removing the turbo will void your warranty.
To remove the turbo it would've been cheaper for you to purchase the N/A with the features you wanted in the USA and bring it back to Canada.
The import duties are roughly 10% of the vehicle cost depending on which province you live in.
Being it is a Japan manufactured vehicle you will already be paying that fee in the dealer pricing anyway.
Your best choice at this point is to say lesson learned and to live with the estimated 4mpg around town difference between the NA and turbo.
It's likely the cheapest cost anyway.

 

If the MPH is the only issue... contact Versa Tune and see when they have a program available for your year and other stats Mazda. It really easy to improve the MPG adjusting areas of the ECU.
For any Mazda they offer the program 400-500 USD and then to have a qualified Calibrator do a custom MPG calibration adjustment from 200-400 USD.

You will get improved MPG. It will not void the warranty because you can upload your back-up complete ECU before the install and it will leave no footprint of ever being their that can be found without a lot of experience in ECU calibrating and a bout 1-3 hours of painstakingly examining all the operating areas of a basic ECU. In other words, no one or auto manufacture is ever going to do that.

Agreed. If you can buy a factory built car just the way you want it, why wouldn't you do that? It can't be that difficult to buy it in the US and bring it over the border? I personally say get the turbo, having had both NA and Turbo, the 2.5T is an awesome motor.

 

Frankly my post makes the Turbo model worthwhile instead going with a complete running gear retrofit. But even more to think about doing the same thing to a N/A makes more common sense as one would end up with a Mazda several thousand dollars. less expensive than the Turbo model, from a long service standpoint more reliable and a good jump in power which equals .....more fun to drive and better MPG.


BTW for the one member on a performance all around standpoint the really only thing the Turbo model has that the N/A does not is a higher stall converter. Which actually can be swapped out like changing sparkplugs in the N/A Skyactiv transmissions. Also not detectable if done in a N/A if you are careful about not marring the fasteners during the service. LOL

 

Good point, I never looked into that option. I can't back away from that dealership because I will lose my initial deposit.
