Default CX-50 turbo in 2026 since CX-5 turbo is discontinued ?

As we all know Mazda dropped the CX-5 turbo in 2026 ,which for many is sad - Would you switch to the CX-50 turbo in 2026 as a viable alternative ? The CX-50 is growing on me and I prefer its design over the 2026 CX-5 - Mazda really scr,,,ed the pooch on that -regardless - thoughts on this ?

Mazda no longer makes the turbo for any of its 2026 models.

Where did you see this? I just did a search and nothing said they were DCing the 2.5T in the CX-50.

Thanks -- I suppose that answers that question .....then the next question would be - Is the hybrid CX-50 something that you would buy over the N/A 2026 CX-5 ? I am not a hybrid fan - So Not for me -

My friend in R&D engineering department and head of power train and control systems told me they are developing a new inductive system for various future Turbo model Mazda. He did not suggest which Models . But he won’t spell the beans to me what it was or what models .
Mazda never tells until they they are actually ready and then it goes to the public relations department first for approval and they decide what when where the information will be released. One big example is the return of the rotary engine. And then it was several years before we all knew about Skyactiv power train systems .
My thoughts are I hope they actually have a real Turbocharger instead of that tiny toy that Mazda calls a Turbocharger. Lol

Bigger (or twin smaller turbos) is usually better on a turbo motor, but I will take my "tiny toy" any day over the NA motor. What a difference it makes.

I don't think it answered anything. Where did the info come from? I have read nothing about other models not continuing the 2.5T motor. Just the new 2026 CX-5 so far.

it’s the Turbocharger size….we as in those that are into performance turbochargers know and chuckles at the actual size of the compress and turbine wheel hidden by the much larger body. lol As for the N/A vs a Turbo Mazda Skyactiv engines the NA can make more hp power then the turbo but less torque. And it’s easier ,cheaper and more practical to upgrade and increase an N/A then the turbo in the class we are talking about. The turbo is just to small. Lol

Now if you want to talk about changing the complete inductive system then yup Turbo is going to out power a NA . But then to do that might as well buy a different model and older Mazda because of $$$$$$ to upgrade to higher performance level parts

twin smaller turbo are a set up plagued with tuning issues… lol Not really practical and a BWD will out perform them on smaller displacement engines. So here again larger displacement engines would benefit from twin turbo set up but what a waste to install smaller twin turbos in the first place. Buy a Tesla then . Lol

Hello… I am new here, but will provide my 2 cents regarding the original post.
I was just in the same boat. Me and the wife like mostly everything about her 2019 Mazda6 Signature… and I especially like the 2.5L turbo engine. I have been contemplating a new CX-5, but wondering if it was big enough. Mazda announced a roomier 2026 CX-5 coming in 2026… awesome! Then I read no turbo… epic fail. I am not interested in a hybrid. So I hurriedly took the plunge and purchased a new 2025 CX-5 Signature last week. I like Japanese cars that are actually made in Japan, so that pushed me toward the CX-5 vs the CX-50.
