Default Question about connecting dashcam

My wife and I recently bought a 2020 Mazda CX-5. We have a dashcam that we want to connect. In our old vehicle, we connected the dash camera to the cigarette lighter. I've been watching videos on youtube about connecting directly to the fuse box via something called a BlackVue Power Magic Pro. I don't know a lot about this (or about cars in general) but can anyone tell me if this is a safe and reliable method to connect a dash cam? I'm worried about using something that's a bit sketchy and possibly damaging my vehicle.

I have one in my 2019 Signature and also in my 2015 Mustang. Works fine. It enables you to set your voltage cuts offs so that the camera doesn't drain your battery. Pretty easy to install as well.

hey jplank - there's another way to power up your dashcam. You can actually tap into the power going to your mazda's rearview mirror. I recently installed a dashcam on my CX5 as well, but used an adapter instead. It was quite an easy solution all said n done.
I posted a vid on Youtube. Check it out, you might be interested.

That video does not have park mode for the cam, does it?

Whenever possiblele it is always better to tap into a existing wire at the fuse box with a high amp rating then you add on device. Then run the power lead to the new added device. This way you protect your MAZDA, your device and if there is a power outage supply it will in almost every case be the fuse you added and not the main fuse you tapped into. Running a small cable is not difficult nor is it time consuming unless 5 minutes is time consuming? LOL
If you do want or persist in running a jump lead only with no separate fuse or relay protection off an existing wire, then you really should find out its load rating.

Before you use BlackVue Power Magic Pro you may find that most Dashcams do not drain a battery if set up correctly. And most dash cams do not run continuallsy in video recording mode. It is very rare that you would need an additional device like the BlackVue Power Magic Pro for most installations of a dash cam.
