Since all Mazdas usually program the same way, and if it works like my earlier year Mazdas, then you may be forced to pay the dealer to program the key.

If you have two keys, you can program a third key yourself (you need two programmed keys handy to program the third while sitting in the driver's seat).

If you only have one original key, you have to pay the dealer to program an Ebay key for it to work with your car. They charge about .75 to 1.0 hrs labor (~$100).

The reason is that having two keys, they know it's legit, but having only one key means you could be a thief. Example: a valet could program a $30 Ebay key from the one you gave him, then they follow you home and steal your car off your driveway.

Smart, forward thinking Mazda owners among us would buy the $30 ebay key NOW, program it yourself for free, then put it away for the day you lose one of the other two. (I'm going to search for a key on Ebay now! )

As for the actual instructions, you can search any of the Mazda forum (or Google) for actual programming a third key from two.
