Mazda Connect - exactly what is it?
Yes, I guess they don't call it an alarm but a theft deterrent system that alerts when forcing open a door, the hood or the liftgate, among other things..
If the theft-deterrent system detects an inappropriate entry into the vehicle, which could result in the vehicle or its contents being stolen, the alarm alerts the surrounding area of an abnormality by sounding the horn and flashing the hazard warning lights. The horn sounds intermittently and the hazard warning lights flash for about 30 seconds when the system is triggered by any one of the following:
(With the advanced keyless function)
The lights and horn can also be deactivated by pressing the request switch on a door.

- Opening the hood by operating the hood release handle.
- Switching the ignition ON without using the push button start.

While I don't use the My Mazda app, I do use Mazda Connect. I find it VERY hard to believe that the app will do all of this for you, "it gives you all the info about your car - locked, unlocked, gas in tank, you can start the car remotely, etc". How would the car broadcast all of this info?
The app certainly won't start the car for you if you don't have a remote starter installed.

My wife just asked me "Did you go open my trunk?"
I told her I had, to install a cargo carrier, that came from Amazon. She said my car just told me someone had been in the trunk, via her smartphone.

My favorite feature is the notification that the door is unlocked or the trunk is open.
