Default Mazda 2.5L w/ Cylinder Deactivation vs. Turbo

My 2014 Mazda3 will be 10 next spring and I was thinking of getting a new CX-5 (since it is still made in Japan). However, the 2.5L engine now comes with cylinder deactivation, and I have to wonder if that is going to greatly shorten longevity. The only way to avoid cylinder deactivation is to get the turbocharged version, which I don't mind paying extra for, but I do have to wonder how reliable the turbo engines will be as well. Any experiences and advice are appreciated, thank you!

Just one data point: 5+ years with our 2018 CX-5 with cylinder deactivation and (knocking on wood) no issues so far. Also, pretty good MPG in mixed city/highway (compared to Turbo)

The cylinder deactivation is honestly awesome and seems to be one of the most reliable. The turbo engine is amazing and just rides smooth with a lot of power. Considering I drive both, I prefer the Turbo for the extra power. The 2.5 is still a great engine and can get you in trouble if you don't check your speedometer lmao .

Long time lurker, first time poster. Like the OP, have concerns about CDA while considering purchase of CX5. Realize turbo would eliminate this concern, but do not prefer.

Note the above article which seems to be a fair, well written article which explains CDA. Following excerpt, has anyone experienced oil consumption after 30K miles ? Appreciate your thoughts/opinions.

Despite this advantage, many Mazda vehicle owners still feel that their vehicles' oil consumption is excessive despite having cylinder deactivation. In fact, increased oil consumption typically becomes apparent after traveling about 30,000 miles.

This is not a common issue. There are some reports of oil leaks early, but it is not very common and Mazda covers it under warranty regularly, from what I have seen here anyway. You get a 5yr/60k powertrain warranty as well.

I've had no issues with oil consumption, as of yet anyway, and my mileage is excellent.
I'm getting over 30mph around town, granted it's a small town.
No complaints yet except the crappy OEM battery and tires that I quickly replaced.

Nor I, and my car will be 6 in June.

Turbo doesn't have I-stop. One of the reasons I bought a Turbo along with no cyl. deactivation. It could be worse, I was looking at Nissan Rouges, only have 3 cly.!

And the Nissan motor uses the VC-turbo system which to me is just asking for trouble if you are planning to keep it a long time.

Is it the 2024 2.5L that has i-stop worldwide? I have no start/stop on my North American 2022 but it does have the CD.
