Default Launching into CarPlay

I haven't figured out the pattern re: when my CX-5 Signature (2021) will boot directly into CarPlay, and when I have to hold the Home button down for a second or two to get it to switch to CarPlay.

Does anyone know what the pattern is? I use it EVERY time I'm in my car, so I'd like it to boot directly to CarPlay. It doesn't seem to matter if the iPhone is plugged in before I start the car, if audio is playing, etc.

So, what determines whether the car starts up in the Infotainment mode/menu, or directly into CarPlay?

P.S. Goodness it would be nice if a firmware update enabled wireless CarPlay, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

For a bit of background, I’ve installed a Sony XAV-AX1000 in my wife's Kia Sportage and every time I plug in my iPhone, they CarPlay interface will launch on the head unit automatically which

In my '19 GTR, Carplay will automatically start up when the phone is plugged in IF I HAD CARPLAY ON THE LAST TIME I DROVE THE CAR.

If I was on the Mazda Nav, or Sirius last time in the car, Carplay will not auto start. I have to select it.

Supposedly there is just what you desire for the 21. Wireless AA/CP via a firmware update. https://www.mazdaforum.com/forum/maz...13/#post192007

I thought I'd read that only available in Canada or something like that.

Is it available on 2021 U.S. models of the CX-5?

I don't know. Just saw that thread and figured it would work. Maybe it is only on Canadian cars. That would be stupid if it is the case.

Wait, I thought I had created this topic, but when I went to my profile, it said no posts and no topics started, so I started it again:

If the topics can be merged by a moderator or admin, I would appreciate it. Apologies for the duplicates. I looked all over for my topic, and didn't find it anywhere. My profile said "0 posts" and that I hadn't started any topics.

This may be helpful
Mazda Apple CarPlay User Guide

Once a compatible iPhone® is connected to the smartphone-enabled USB port, Apple CarPlay™ will launch automatically. There are also multiple, user-friendly ways to access and get started using Apple CarPlay from the MAZDA CONNECT™ home screen.

However, I agree that often times, I have to unlock the phone to get CP to connect with the Mazda, but usually, it just shows up and I am ready to go. I have an old 6S+ running latest iOS. I have not checked into whether I have had to have CarPlay running the last time I drove the car...that is an interesting thought.

The Mazda implementation is better than the 2019 Subaru WRX implementation which often hangs up. Over time, the CP connect behavior has gotten better and better. In that WRX, I often get into conflicts with Aha app and the Subaru Starlink (sort of like Mazda Connect) and other apps trying to connect through Bluetooth hanging up CarPlay. The Mazda seems to manage these conflicts better, but why I do not understand.

Maybe that's all it is. I said I haven't noticed a pattern, but I don't know if I've looked at whether the phone is unlocked when I plug it in and start the car or if it's locked and/or the display is off.

I'll start to pay attention to that to see if it launches directly into CarPlay when the phone is unlocked, instead of requiring me to long-press on the home button in the car.

Thank you.

Well, I'm not talking about wireless CarPlay. That's not what the topic is about.

But wireless CarPlay would be nice. I don't think that Firmware version is available for regular users, or I haven't read about it anywhere in a way that says I can get it.
