Just got a 2014 CX-5 with 142k miles on it. Other than oil, what should I do as far as maintenance on the car? Drain/fill coolant, transmission, brake fluid, power steering fluid, spark plugs, etc? Dealer said they changed the oil, wipers, and LR window motor but I'll do the oil to be sure.

Also I need a spare tire holder bolt thing. Found the part number for that as KD3356960A. Best bet for this is going to a U-Pull junkyard? Mazda wants $22 for this, should be $2 from a junkyard.

The CX-5 we have is the 2014 Touring (sans all of the techno-crap) and we love it. Is the oil on the stick clean? Taste it. No flavor? Then you can probably trust that it was changed. At $8.00 to $10.00 a quart for the Mazda Moly GF-5 0W20 oil I wouldn't change it for no cause (+ another $10.00 for the filter). If your going to do your own oil changes, you will need a 9mm hex/allen bit to remove the plug. Brake fluid flush is a good idea. It's DOT-3 (available everywhere). I think we have electric steering so...no pump, no fluid. Transmission flush is co-mingled with coolent flush and unless your a Mazda Mechanic, I wouldn't do this yourself. I just had these done at the dealership recently starting with the tranny flush. It turned up an issue with the heater core becoming clogged during the coolent flush part and they had to R&R the dashboard to replace the heater core (there is a TSB on this problem). So, no cost to me. The transmission flush cost $135.00. Spark plugs I haven't had to do yet. Check the brakes. They're fiber pads that stop you quick but wear out quick too. They are pretty cheap from dealer parts (under $150.00 front & rear) and easily replaced. I hope your paint is still good. If it is, keep a good coat of wax on it. I LOVE the new Turtle Wax spray "Seal and Shine" product. It holds up better than anything I've used here in Florida. JMHO.

Congrats on the new ride. I would also check the belts and the battery.

Thanks guys. I bought the oil yesterday so I'll go ahead and change the oil. Probably do the spark plugs too. Is it Ok to do a transmission flush at these high miles without knowing if/when it was last done?

Paint still looks great except for some chips, small rust spots and 2 nasty scratches. I'll have to touch those spots up some time.

Tire light is on so I'll also have to figure out which tire is low.
