How do I turn off the smart brakes
I am replacing the front end parts on a 2019 CX-5 after a fender bender. I have also removed the steering wheel airbag, seatbelts, and SRS module. I am waiting for replacement parts. However, since beginning this repair work, the car will no longer move when I shift into forward or reverse. Is there a way to disengage the smart brakes until all repairs are complete?
I get warning lights: SCBS Malfunction....and Parking Brake System Malfunction. I had to disconnect several wire harnesses (besides the SRS wires) when dismantling the center console to remove the SRS module. Is there a sensor in the console that detects the position of the transmission shift lever?? Is there a wire harness to the ABS module under the hood that will deactivate the smart brakes? I am a retired engineer and I often fix up late model/low milage vehicles for single moms but I have never had to deal with "stuck brakes". I would like to be able to move the car from my garage to the driveway while waiting for repair parts.
Thanks Conrad for not giving up on my the first time. You were right about the electronic parking brake. I had only driven the CX-5 enough to turn it around in my drive way after the tow truck delivered it. In the front end fender-bender the intake manifold was badly cracked and it sounded more like a cracked exhaust manifold so I was afraid to run the engine much for fear of sucking plastic chunks into the cylinders.
Upon receiving the vehicle I quickly dismantled the center console to retrieve the SRS module and I had to disconnect a few wiring harnesses. I put all the parts in the back seat and did not notice that one of the parts had a brake button. Anyway, after your second reply I dug around in the back seat and found the brake switch and reconnected to the wire harness and ...the car now moves. Thanks Conrad. Oh...and any idea where I can get a steering wheel airbag. AIRBAG CENTER in Florida just sent me the wrong one. The Mazda Dealer here in Anchorage said they were not available. A lot of the front end parts are not available and I have had to use Ebay etc.

No idea on the airbag, good luck with it.
