Default Gear issues/having to drive in manual

So I bought this used Mazda CX-5, I’ve had it a few months and it has started to have issues going into drive. It started out small with a slight jump when I would switch into drive. Within 2/3 weeks it would do that but on a bigger scale. One day it reved up and scared me so we pulled back into the driveway. My husband looked up some stuff and did what’s called “resetting the gears” well that worked for about a week then it went back to slightly lurching forward. Its been about a month of this issue now it takes about 5 whole long seconds to go into drive and still it jumps like a clunck (idk hard to explain in words) but once it’s in drive it’s fine 98% of the time. When I am stopped at a light with the brake pressed it goes like maybe one inch forward like I put my foot off the brake. Its happened 3 times. That’s scary.. yesterday when stopped at a light on a slight hill in drive it didn’t want to go I pushed the gas and it reved up slightly and eventually it went but I thought I was going to be stuck on the highway dudes. Anyways fast forward to today I’ve been driving it in manual position and I haven’t really had a problem. So many speculations…. Thought maybe the solenoid for the drive position was broken or dirty or anything wrong with it bec it was only drive for the longest messing up. We thought the transmission fluid was low/needed changed or when we looked it up said wrong temp.l could cause those same issues. I took it to a shop for them to wait a week and charge me $95 to tell me they wouldn’t work on it bec it’s something wrong in the transmission. They hooked a computer up to it and it didn’t throw any codes. Giving the other issues I’m not sure what it is and we r back at square one. Taking it to a transmission shop here soon but she drives fine in manual, but I’m not going to just go with that. It’s scary. Anyways has anyone else had this problem please please chat with me this is my realistic dream car we love it!! Could it be solenoid(s) or the transmission computer or wiring or the whole transmission??? I mean obviously I’m not trying to buy a new trans but I may have to.

You don't say what year, mileage or drive type.
Normally the first thing to check is fluid.
If you have over 50K on the vehicle changing the transmission fluid and filter should be done.
Then check that motor and transmissions mounts/bolts are in place and tight.
The shop may have checked all that but if the transmission is bad as they say, it should've given them a code.
If you are taking it to the transmission shop, just wait and see what they recommend.
