Garmin dashcam and wiring
I'd like to install a dashcam that will record the road ahead and also what's happening inside the car, with a view of approaching traffic from behind. This would go into my 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring which has a framed rear-view mirror. I've had a good experience with Garmin gear, and I'm thinking of installing a Garmin
. This dashcam comes with wiring to connect it to a USB plug powered by the car's cigarette lighter, but, instead, I'd prefer connecting it to the wiring behind the mirror to reduce the amount of wiring--and keep the cockpit neat and uncluttered. Looks to me like the Dongar kit below will allow this with the framed mirror.
So, two questions:
1. Does anyone here have experience, good or bad, with the Garmin dashcam above? If so, I'd be grateful for feedback on your experience. Does it do what you expected? How was the installation? Would you buy it again? Lessons learned?
2. Can I power the camera above with the wiring in the box behind the mirror, using the ? Did you use this kit? Any thoughts?
Any recommendations on how to proceed (or not proceed) most appreciated.
Many thanks,

Oh man, sorry there hasn't been a response to this, but to answer your questions:
Cheers!
- Great experience with the product. Installation was easy and haven't touched my dashcam since installation (1+ years ago). It was one of the simplest things I've added to the car and well worth it.
PS: I had a Garmin Mini 2 and recently am trying out a Vantrue unit - If you've got the connector on the back of the mirror, the 10-pin Type A you mentioned should work. If you have one of the newer cars or frameless rearview mirror, you'll need this one - 10-pin Type E.
Cheers!
