Has there been any more movement on this?

If this firmware update does enable wireless CarPlay (I have a 2021 CX-5 Sig), how can I install the firmware? Where does one get it, or must they visit their dealer?

 

It isn’t available publicly. Hopefully it ends up online in the future.

 

If its like all the previous updates it will most certainly be available online. I updated my 2019's firmware using instructions on the forum. Worked perfectly.

Not that I have heard of. It would certainly be cool if it did become available.

 

Version 74.00.230 NA has been available since December 2020 and no it won't activate Wireless Carplay by itself it needs a new CMU price around $800.

Since there's no wireless charging adding CP seems kind of pointless to me.

 

It's not pointless. You have to take your phone out of your pocket and plug it in EVERY time you get in to use CarPlay now, and you'd NEVER have to do that to just use CarPlay with wireless. Even without charging it's GREAT, even if you just want to drive a short distance but listen to your podcasts, or while you're running errands and getting in and out of your car frequently.

I'm a bit annoyed that wireless CarPlay wasn't available on my '21 Sig, but oh well.

 

That's a good point. I was kind of irritated they didn't include it on my 21 GT with the Premium package. I guess I've just gotten in the habit of tossing the phone on the passenger seat and plugging it in when I get in the car.

 

It is so strange to me they offer wireless AA/CP on Canadian cars, but not US cars. What could the possible reason be to not just make them with the same options? When we had our '16 RDX Advance I wondered what the two blank areas for buttons on the back of the center console were for. I found out the Canadian version had heated rear seats, but this wasn't even an option for the US model. Seemed ridiculous considering they were all built in the same factory in Ohio.
