I hope that other reading realizes the success of rattle canning is more labor intensive then described by many. To have had the paint adhere the tail pipe would have been needed to be sanded or better yet bead or sand blasted. Then clean with a something like acetone. The primer would have had to be cured before the topcoat which means priming and doing some form of heat curing and waiting about 203 days before applying the topcoat, Then curing the topcoat before a full service with good results for a rattle canned tail pipes that may last at least 12-15 months. But even the best prepped surfaces Rattle canning exhaust parts there will be some paint that will simply burn off or get contaminated and flake off.

ALL the Ratte companies will state most all of what I just posted. But hey feeling froggy go for it , after all it is your ride!
Awesome assumption, but nope, I remember just fine as it was, not how "I think it went." Had about 4 inches between the paint and where the weld was. Of course that didn't matter in the slightest since the tip was welded before the paint was applied and the the turbo back was installed.

But you keep pluggin away, its awesome work you're doing on these forums.

I tried to get her to get and Audi Q3 but the Mazda was over 10k cheaper and was actually a better value for what she needed.
With that in mind she loves the Carbon Edition and the Black Accents and Red Interior. But! She doesn't like the chrome on the lower side window trim, or the Chrome Badges or Exhaust Tips.
Getting the chrome on the lower window surround wrapped professionally next week. Since starting this thread went up the the Exhaust Shop who installed my Cat Back on my Audi, seeing him again tomorrow on what we can do CORRECTLY on the black tips.
The badges however will be a tough go. I believe they are all pinned. If that is indeed the issue, i will remove and have painted professionally and reapply.
My Audi has all Black Trim and badges.
LOVE the white and black
And I HATE that some badges are pinned. (Mazda, i'm talking to you too lol). Ended up ordering all new badges from Mazda direct, painted them so they were super clean and swapped out the chrome.

Only one is pinned... the rest are double sided taped.
This is very common on almost every other platform.

I removed all (de-badged) welded up the pin holes and re-painted my trunk lid.

The rear muffler is a Racing Beat. Later I replaced that with a Cork Sport and now currently using an OBX. The OBX uses Stainless steel tips .
The one thing about rolled tip is they do not drain the moisture better then other tips and may cause some corrosion issues in the future. The other 2 muffler choices both had flaws in the design, and I reported them to both companies. Maybe they will adjust future products reflexing those flaws. Unfortunately, like most they simply used what they prefer in mufflers and build something that is a DIY direct fit for the OEM rear exhaust system. Borla muffler are the worst to use on a Skyactive ECU engine as they will tend to reduce the power output and also the complete power level curve.

The heat generated by the exhaust on a MAZDA Skyactiv engine primarily because the CAT run between 450-1600F+ degrees is that the actual temperature's measured at the tail pipe are generally still very high. So "painting any exhaust parts specifically with rattle can may not last very long.
The simple use of a hand held temperature gun as well connecting the OBDII diagnostic connector directly and accessing the CAT temperature's can give a lot of supportive information to consider before "painting exhaust tips on a Mazda!

No sir, On the 2022 & 2023 Mazda CX5, all the badges in some way are pinned. The main Mazda emblem is pinned in 2 places. The C & the X are pinned in CX5 and the skyactive G badge is pinned in 2 places. The only ones that aren't are the small "AWD" (Which comes with CX5 badge when you order it) and the "Turbo" under the Skyactive G.
And on my 2008 & 2018 Subarus, outside of the main trunk Subaru logo, NONE of them were pinned.

Ok well you own one so I guess you know? In my work I don't do body upgrades for customers so not in the know of all the pinned and not pinned emblems. I work with several custom body shop that I farm out that for customers to have done.
Every platform and model is different I don't know anyone anywhere that is a emblem pin or not expert in the world?

If you do the MAZDA I am sure that pictures before and after would be appreciated by many members!

Welcome to the conversation. I do not speak in absolutes like you do most of the time. Can't speak for your Mazda but I can for the 22 Carbon CX5 and the 23 Turbo which I have both owned (still own the 23').

I also don't assume to know if every car manufacturer pins some, all or none of their badges. That would just be arrogant presumption. Your initial response to mine about the badges being pinned did come off that way. I'm sure some do and some don't depending on a myriad of factors. Both Subaru's I had, a 2008 Legacy GT and a 2018 Forester XT both were not pinned except for the main logo.

I don't have any before and after pictures of the process that i did on both cars. I can however supply part numbers to anyone who wants to buy a rear set for their 22' and up CX5 as I bought two separate sets, one for my Carbon and one for the turbo.

I tried spraying the emblems on the car (Plastidip) and it didn't come out well. So I priced up the badges (I think about 75$ for all of them) figuring it would be easier to spray the badges off the car and just swap them out. Worked perfectly wether your using plastidip or primer and black spray paint.
