Default Don't buy Mazda remote start !!!

Just a quick FYI for Canadians who want the remote start feature on their CX-5. The dealer quote was about $800 , and I was almost ready to say yes until they explained it required a second fob and would not be tied to the Mazda 4 button fob. A little research online , and I saw the vehicle also shuts off upon door opening which requires a full restart... not my idea of a good setup. I have an old friend in the audio electronics business , and asked for a local person he could recommend. Well for about a 40% discount , I had a system that is tied to my key fob and with an uber clean install that allows the car to run for up to 15 minutes and does NOT shut off when I get in. Upon pressing the brake pedal , the systems cycle and you can drive away. The safety is there as vehicle still needs to sense remote for brake press to cycle electronics and to open door.

I understand from the installer is from iData systems ,and NO WIRES are cut. I am very happy customer !!!

Be careful when buying a remote start system. I occasionally find my trunk open due to the button being pressed when I am in the house. I would hate to find the car running in the garage in a similar circumstance. The 15 minute limit, if it works, would help.

Remote start systems are not legal in my town due to the potential for car thefts (although I suspect there has never been one). While you may need to have the key or restart the car or the engine may turn off, I do not believe this is factored into the legislation.

Wow the land of the free , and they can't stomach a remote start system. I haven't tested the 15 minute limit yet , though I have on my Jeep Cherokee and it does shut off. How does your legislation deal with OEM systems, I am pretty dang sure Jeep is not removing options for one Pennsylvania community.
