I'm unable to find anything in the owners manual.

Anyone know if it's possible to temporarily disable the passenger airbag so it doesn't deploy when someone is sitting in the passenger seat with the dog?

Suggestion. Put the dog in the back seat with a safety harness.

 

There are three Air-bags for each front seat passenger. Front, side & curtain.

I'm not aware of any Mazda that allows the disabling of Air-bags.

Keep the dog harnessed in the back seat or boot/rear.

The passenger seat airbags are pressure activated. As long as the processor senses sufficient weight on the passenger seat they are armed.

 

All the air-bags are armed 24/7, as long as there is 12v. All air-bags are controlled by the SRS/RCM module. Seat sensors are only for the seatbelt reminder buzzer.

 

... And in the US at least, to reduce the explosive action of the passenger side air bag when less than 90 lbs is detected in the seat. But as Grim stated, it's still active.
