Default Front Passenger Airbag Light

I've noticed that when I place my bag on the passenger seat, the airbag light on the dash remains on ... disabling the airbag.

The manual says the light should turn on for 5 seconds when the car is started, then turns off....

i've had the airbag light come on while i was driving down the highway. when i turned my vehicle off and then back on, the light disappeared. i'm thinking mine was a glitch. did yours do the same thing or does the problem still exist?

Which air bag light are you referring to? The one on the instrument cluster by the gauges or the one down by the shifter below the fan switch? The one on the dash should light on start up and go out after about 6 seconds. If if comes at any other time there is probably a malfunction in the system and the entire air bag system will be disabled. The one down by the fan switch is only indicating the passenger front air bag. It too should light on start and then go off after 6 seconds UNLESS there is a weight on the seat up to approx 66 pounds. This is the automatic disable feature in case you have a small child or infant in a car seat sitting in the front passenger seat. It does not take very much wieght to disable either and your bag may be just enough.
