Default CX-5 partial engine replacement

Question for the experts.

Had a head gasket failure on my 2015 CX-5 Grand Touring Diesel.

The dealers have told me that I did not blow the head gasket, but the receipt said that they did a partial engine replacement.

The part number for the partial engine is SHYE02300B.

Can anyone identify what SHYE02300B.entails?

Cheers

G

My engine cross over guide ,which is not always accurate, shows that to be a long block only no accessories?
This is a supplier of low mileage engines and trans, missions we often use in he shop .

Cheers Callisto.

I was suspecting it was a short motor. Long motor is a good indicator that the coolant leak added to the recall fix made for a very bad combination.

Gotta love warranty fixes.

Different people have different interpretations of long block vs short block.

When Mazda replaced the engine, it would come in a crate, fully assembled ie block, head, sump, rocker cover & timing chain. ( no manifolds, pipes, hoses etc) .
Depending on other factors, they may of fitted a new turbo assembly, vacuum pump, and possibly intake manifold & injectors.

They will reuse the fuel pump, water pump, coolant hoses, & depending on condition intake manifold & egr system.

They will fit new fuel pipes , thermostat & gaskets/seals.,

AFTERMARKET none vehicle manufacture or dealer
Long Block= Complete engine head and lower short block No other bolt on parts unless specifically noted
Short Block= Engine with no head. No other bolt on parts unless specifically noted

Cheers guys.

What defines a long & short motor hasn't changed since the days I worked at Commonwealth Chrysler in Braddon.

The only major bolt-on component they replaced was the vacuum pump, but i'm surprised that they would re-use the water pump.

We have replaced heaps of these engines, can't recall a water pump being replaced, nor any fault afterwards.

These engines are known to have a weak head gasket. Hence the reason Mazda is replacing the engines well out off warranty.

Pretty sure my head gasket is blown on my 2014 CX5 Grand Touring, but I'm the second owner and it's at 110k. Probably no chance of them going this far out of warranty, huh?

The poster hasn’t been back, but I doubt he realized this thread is for diesel engines only.
