Very curious about the applicable TSB. It states a very specific magical date (14 Sept 2021) and VIN, after which excessive oil consumption is apparently not an issue. That raises a VERY obvious question: does anyone have a MY2021 2.5 Turbo built AFTER the VIN cut-off that exhibits the same excessive oil consumption? Also, it might be too early, but does anyone have a MY2022 2.5 Turbo that exhibits the same excessive oil consumption? If the answer to either question is no, then clearly Mazda has a precise understanding of what the problem was (since it is, by definition, now fixed) and is diddling about on what to do with the affected MY2021 vehicles.

Good detective work. As mine was built in the spring of '21 I will likely be affected at some point. Hopefully they come up with an effective solution.

My CX5 2021 Turbo has 14,900 miles. I did not experience low oil until recently after having two prior oil changes. Prior to my third oil change on July 8, 2022, I was approximately a quart low. I had to go back to my dealer today due to oil leaks on my garage floor. They attributed it to a faulty oil filter and replaced it as well as my oil. I researched this further last night and found there is a Class Action suit filed in either WA or CA regarding Mazda's cover up regarding faulty oil stem seals that cause the oil to migrate into the combustion chamber. Therefore, not only is the Turbo 2.5 liter engine burning oil but it's also leaking and will eventually cause irreparable damage (O2 sensors, catalytic convertor failures, valves, etc) I am so pissed because I love the car but hate that Mazda is not owning up to the fact that they have a major issue and do not want to send out recalls due to the expensive. In addition, it is unclear if they even know how to fix it! I showed the May 31, 2022 Class Action lawsuit to the GM and Service Manager who were unaware of this issue (supposedly because I find this hard to believe!). After researching further, this has apparently been known to Mazda since 2016 and they continue to produce car engines with this default. Finally, I am extremely disappointed in the dealership because the service tech point blank lied to me in July when he told me that burning oil was normal when the engine is getting broken in. I asked him about that today, and he said he did not say that! Massive lies and coverup. If anyone has a link on how to join the Class Action lawsuit, please post.
Lastly, I did learn that long trips and extended idling (IE: waiting in school pick up line for 15 minutes) exacerbates the leaking and oil burn off. Not acceptable Mazda!!

My CX5 Turbo was made on 11/2020 so apparently, I'm screwed!

Interesting to me is this motor has been in production for quite a while with the CX9. I have not heard about the oil issue until recently. I would have expected lots of talk about the engines being faulty when it was added to the CX5 in '19. Never did until recently. I also am curious about this Sept 21 date. Did they figure it out then and 2.5Ts after this date are ok? I guess time will tell. The "special tool" talked about in the forums is also curious. Was it designed specifically for this issue? Here's to hoping there is a solution.

Agree! Massive cover up by Mazda. Check out the Class Action suit filed in CA on May 31, 2022. You can find it at carcomplaints.com

Just filed a report. Thanks for posting the link. Also, go to carcomplaints.com and there's a Class Action lawsuit filed against Mazda on May 31,2022 for this issue!

Clearly it's not a big enough problem (yet) for them to issue a recall, or they would have. Quite possible that they haven't nailed the issue down they either.
I guess you didn't read my initial post, never once did I mention tearing down the motor. Filing a complaint will get the NHTSA to investigate and accelerate potential recall/repair. Yesterday after an oil change the dealership requested I return every 1200 miles so they can "check the oil level" to track the problem. I would rather not have to wait X number of years like it took for the fuel pump issue. The more complaints filed with https://www.nhtsa.gov/ , the higher the likelihood of Mazda fixing the problem.

That's it...takes two minutes to register the issue and MAYBE get something done.

My question still stands: is anyone with a 2021 or 2022 VIN outside the VIN range quoted in the TSB experiencing excessive oil consumption? Anyone? The other side of this coin is the question if anyone with a VIN within the VIN range is NOT experiencing excessive oil consumption with at least, say, 8k miles on the engine? Anyone? Excessive oil consumption is like pronography: if you see it, you recognize it. (deliberate misspelling)
