The updates will stop (like in my case) but you can continue to use the nav. You can restart the subscription, I think there was a discount when you restart, but I am not 100% sure.

I've got the NavKing SD card and the nav system is working fine.

But where does one find the "Mazda Toolkit," and are there any special instructions for checking and/or updating the SD card?
