CX-5 GT 2.2 Diesel 2015 - Turbo Lag/Low Boost
Hi All,
First time posting here... been reading through all of the 2.2l Diesel engine problems and sad to say I also had this problem last year. I won't go too deep into it but it was a 11 month battle with Mazda to have them replace a short block on the 2.2L Skyactive Diesel CX-5 GT with only 150,000kms on it. It went through several repairs including exhaust cams, Inject 1 &2 etc.... It failed 2 weeks later on Injector 3. They inspected and after arguing that it was fair wear and tear finally tore down the bottom end to find broken bearings and a damaged block. Just to preface the condition, my engine likely ran without oil for some time as the oil pickup was blocked solid. It was very stressful but they eventually came to the party.
So thats effectively where I am today. A new short block (From the KF Engine, but the rest is the original KE engine), but all of the externals bolted back on... including the original Turbo. Now, I hadn't driven the car in almost a year at this point, and I was sure it pulled better... So I took it back complaining of low/no boost. It changes gears instead of pulling with the 450NM of torque its supposed to have. Also my fuel economy skyrocketed from 5.8L/100km average to over 9.0L/100km.
A couple weeks ago the 4th injector failed on the highway and again we're being towed. They have now replaced the 4th injector and the boost pressure sensor. I'm not sure which sensor it was, but it has been a known issue and is under an extended warranty. Some here would know which one it is....
Anyway... I have the car back now. I still have low torque, no real get up and go. I don't have any codes on the ECU and used the Torque App to try and diagnose it as best I can. The Torque App is reading a regulated MAX boost of 3.5PSI boost pressure and no more. Fuel economy is also stuck at 7.0L/100km and no matter how frugally I drive, it will just not drop below that. I literally put put down the highway at 100kph idling the whole way. Normally I can get this thing between 5.2L and 5.8L fuel economy very comfortably.
Dealer told me it's a new engine and let it run in.... I'm calling BS on that as it ran beautifully from day one. And this thing is just running lifeless....
So.... my question is this:
- Is 3.5PSI of boost pressure too low? (I've read online that it could normally be as high as 23PSI?)
- Is it possible for the turbo to have been severely damaged yet still 'Look' okay when the dealer inspected it?
- Are there any others who have had this experience? or advice to take back to the dealer?
Really appreciate the amazing help offered in the other threads.
Have a great day,
Ramjet.

The dealer must surely be as sick of me as I am of them....
Anyone else got a 2.2L Diesel KE that might have a Bluetooth ODB2 scanner and able to tell me what boost pressure they get in their car?
Cheers,

Hello. You may need to replace the turbocharger. And the fan pressure is very low. I got my LBZ Duramax Upgrades from https://nashvilleperformance.com/lbz-duramax-upgrades/ and installed it, it works fine, the pressure is fine. By the way, they have discounts now, I took at the best price
