Looking to buy a CX-5 without cylinder deactivation.
Where can I find definitive answers to 2 basic questions; Does a 2017 CX-5 Grand Touring AWD have cylinder deactivation?
Does the 2019 or 2020 CX-5 GT AWD Turbo have cylinder deactivation?

No. Only 18+ NA.

Thanks Chocolate for the reply. I've received conflicting answers to these question from many sources including MazdaUSA Customer Service and Mazda dealers. Did you find this info on a Mazda site or publication? Please share. Been told that all 2018 -2022 2.5 engines, including turbos have CD. Still waiting for MazdaUSA to reply on the 2017.
Mine has Deactivation but you have no idea what the car is doing- Its smooth , not like vehicles in the past.
At this point, I doubt it will have any effect on the longevity as other car makers have been doing this forever and a majority of people never have an issue.

I think there was a recall and an issue with CD that got resolved. I guess that is the reason some are hesitant to get an engine with CD. But as in your case, we had the car now for over four years and no issues at all.
It's much more a case of CD potentially being the direct cause of significant extra repairs, rather than shortening a vehicle's lifespan. Mazda has (so far) released 2 TSBs related on problems directly related to CD (detached rocker arm and air bubbles). Now at this point in time, no one knows what the scope and impact of those issues are, or if any other CD-specific problems are waiting in the wings.
Virtually every individual CD engine issue would have been (and continue to be) handled under warranty, and very few owners would join a forum to complain about a covered repair, or send a complaint about it to the NHTSA. So whatever impact there's ultimately going to be from CD will likely not be known until after a good percentage of the powertrain warranties come to an end.
Personally, I don't like anything that introduces additional points of failure, unless the benefits far outweigh the potential added impact. And in the case of adding CD to Skyactiv, IMO the gain of 1 MPG (or less) is not even close to justifying the potential baggage that comes along with it. I don't blame the OP of this thread for not wanting to own a CD-equipped vehicle, and I'd make it disappear from mine in a microsecond if I could do so.

I agree that less is better but CD is in multiple car lines already and has been for years- the internet is not flooded with deactivation problems - I totally agree with you I am not concerned about the small improvement in mileage vs complexity but since this was started in 2018 and its almost 2023 I think widespread problems would be well know. People like to complain...
Most cars have start \ stop and it has been debated about dead batteries,. starters, stress etc but so far none of that has come about yet... At least we don't have both !
