why is no one contacting DOT about this? if the glass is part of structural rigidity, which it is, then it must be a safety issue. if the unibody is flexing enough that the glass is breaking, then it must be a safety issue. if DOT gets enough complaints, and investigates, this could result in a massive recall, and i guarantee you mazda aint gonna like that. here in texas, there is a lemon law on new cars. most states have a similar law in the books. no one is contesting the "rock" theory to be a factory defect? also, if you go thru an attorney referral service, it will cost about 20 bucks for a half hour with an attorney who specializes in this field. and if they smell a class action, they will be on it like stink on you-know-what. a formal recall designated by DOT to a car manufacturer is a huge deal, and they want to avoid it like the plague. so far, i see lots of posts on infotainment center(we are working on a fix), wheel shimmy(they all do that), and cracked windshields(a rock hit it).

 

Not sure what the hubbub is all about. Why does it matter what Mazda says caused the crack (stone chip, not a stone chip). You insurance will cover it with no deductible and no claim hit because it is a structural component that needs to be fixed. No cost to you (at least here in the USA). Allstate, Geico and Progressive all operate this way (front glass only, of course).


Oh, and if Mazda can't get their shizzle together and get some decent windshield supply, they are exposing themselves to expensive lawsuits if god forbid someone rolls their CX-5 with a cracked windshield. They have incentive to make the windshields available, fast.


If it turns out to be bad windshield material or manufacturing, you will get a new and improved windshield at some point when Mazda figures out the issue.

My wife has a new CX-5 2014 March 25th, yesterday morning sat in car and noticed a crack in the windscreen, starts top middle (more to the left) comes straight down just below the rear view mirror then tails off. Today the curl has grown about 6 inches whilst sitting still overnight.

I took it to the dealer yesterday, who said 'thats a new one for me!!! - better speak to insurance'

I have asked the dealer to review this an now waiting for a response tomorrow from the servicing department.

Anyone got any information - I can go with a better defence.

got the same problem, I took my car from the parking lot and saw a 10cm crack in the windshield, passenger side. It seems to be so sensitive that I'm afraid next time it will crack from a bird poop. Dealership in Montreal did no action, they say is from a stone and I am ending up paying.... Voila !
Poor windshield quality !!!
P.S. the cost of a windshield replacement at the dealer is $680.45

 

With less than 12,000 miles, this is my second cracked windshield.
I would encourage everyone affected by this to file a complain with the nhtsa as somebody else suggested.
I visited the page yesterday, and about half of the complaints are windshield related.
I am going to try my luck with Mazda customer care today and will update later

 

Mazda does not acknowledge that there might be a problem with the windshields. They keep sending customers to the dealership for "inspection".
For sure my next car will NOT be a Mazda

I think there is a lot to be worrried about. If insurance companies spend a lot of $ replacing windshields, you better believe that they will raise rates.

 

You think Mazda CX-5 windshields will affect the billions of dollars spent on claims each year? That would be a lot of windshields. .. and a lot of CX-5s needing windshield repair, to have an effect of more than pennies per year per policy.


Insurance doesn't work the same in all countries, but here in the US, I'm not worried.
