CarPlay upgrade through Mazda - some questions!
Hi there. I wonder if you can help please!
I have just picked up my beloved CX-5 (2018 model). I am really interested in getting Mazda to add CarPlay to the car as I had this on my previous car.
Before I proceed with this, as I am already aware of the price (£350), can I confirm:
was any damage caused to your car having this done? I understand they need to add a new USB port, which I assume means hiding new cable from the videos I've seen (basically everything comes out!)
are any 'features' lost from the existing setup? I'm really keen it doesn't affect the navigation displayed in the Heads Up display
do all steering controls/entertainment control **** still work (including reversing camera etc)?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Dan

The main two reasons I am hesitating to have this done is the high price and that they need to disassemble and reassemble the dash again. Also, I read on one thread that you will lose navigation but I am not 100% sure about it. Hence, I just got one of the magnetic vent phone holders and use that with my phone attached to it. Works perfectly since you can do everything over bluetooth. In fact, I like to use both Google maps and the navigation of the car, since the navigation of the car tells me constantly the distances to rest areas and fuel stations. Very useful on long road trips.
