Is a car undercoating really helpful?
I just bought a brand new Mazda CX-5. I live in Toronto(GTA), Canada, where the road salt is very common way to deice after snowfall in winter. I wonder if a car undercoating is really helpful in protecting underside of the car from rust? If it is, what stores in GTA provide such service and how much does it cost in general?
Thanks!
Thanks!
The best protection is when you do drive on treated roads is to at least rinse your undercarriage with good old fashion plain water as soon as you can . Does not have to be right away but when you can.
Many undercoats can miss small areas or worst create pockets that can actually hold contaminants you are trying to protect against.

Look I live very close to Reno Nevada and often do the 2.5 hour trek in my Mazda in all seasons even winter for the weekend short road trip. My Mica Black Mazda has many times literally looked brown and covered in all sorts of road chemical. I just rinse it off and at the next car complete washing pay a little more attention to the underside for soap and water cleaning.
My personal experience is that undercoating does not work/not worth the money in my area without reapplication at regular intervals, every other year.
Combined with frequent washing of undercarriage during the winter when ice treatment products are applied.
And doing all that is cost prohibitive.
Even then it only slowed rust formation it did not prevent it.
But I live right on the ocean and even in the summer we have fog.
There's so much salt in the fog I just need to wave my margarita glass and fresh baked pretzels out the window...

The Krown rust proofing system requires annual reapplications.
