Default Can’t decide if splash guards are needed.

I have a recently acquired 2022 blue mica Premium Plus. 14k miles.

i’m normally a splash guard guy.

Many of my prior cars had tires which were a bit wider than the fender wells.

They also had exposed paint right behind the tires. 🙉

But this Premium Plus has tires that are well within the fender wells.

Also there is hard black moulding behind all the tire wells. No paint exposure down there.

I don’t know if varied CX 5 trims have differing tire/well setups?

I’m in eastern Missouri, so winters can be quite varied in severity.

Yet, it sure looks to me that they would serve little, if any purpose on this particular trim.

Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum

They are more or less a personal taste addition item. In your case you seem to like them so can't hurt. In some states it is a vehcle code violation to have tires extend beyond the farthest wheel area or wheel trim.
Just reading between the lines you seem likely to at some point get wider tires anyway so why not just get them now satisfy your mod itch and be ready for them wider tires. LOL

Thanks for the response,

The wider tires I was referring to was (among others) my recently sold 2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack Plus wide body. It was a 3000 mile garage queen.

But holy smokes! There was a lot of splash paint exposure there! Fortunately, it never saw a wet road.

it came OEM with 305 (or was it 315) tires all the way around.

I won’t be swapping tires on the CX 5, at least not to something other than stock size. 🤗

I have generic splash guards (Ebay) that look identical to OEM. I got them for about 30 bucks and they look great IMHO. I like the extra protection they give from rocks.

I’m curious…

Do your tires protrude at all from the wheel wells, and is your ride painted in the four splash areas (as opposed to hard black moulding)?

Stock wheels and tires. They do not protrude. I have the unpainted wheel arch surrounds. That is one issue with the newer models, the splash guard is not painted so it may look strange. Mine match
