I too, need to swap my front rotors and pads. I am going to have it done a local shop for about $200. I have the new OEM rotors and pads already.

My dealer quoted me over $600 which seemed a bit over the top. It will be about $400 with my method.
Thanks man. I always done brake job myself but I had old Ford SUV, it was easy. I got the pads only for now. I was about to pop the old one and put in new one but checking the forum just in case. Didn't know about "Maintenance" mode. I will check the other forum. Cheers.

On average a few of us answer in a Technical or service capacity 12-24 forum thread a day to help people that genuinely need help. Then t then there is a member that askes for a service procedure that had they taken little work on the internet could find it themselves. Instead, they want the fast answer to save them the time.

BTW while the proper service procedure on brake jobs with most Mazda is to set the car in maintenance mode it is not always necessary on the front and even the rear with electrical parking brakes. You either need experience doing enough of them to know how to do that or need to do some internet info seeking from a few good service tech's showing the short cut.

I also belong to 247 and may post in the thread that this latest member posted here and yes there are some member on that forum that answer some members just like me. LOL

Not getting you. As he said, this is a FORUM. It's a place where folks come to chat, ask for help, etc. about their CX-5's. He isn't asking anyone to come to his house and do his brake job for free. Asking if someone knows, or has access to a write-up on replacing the pads on a CX-5 doesn't qualify as "freeloading" in my book... It can be quite frustrating trying to search for things online. Why not go to a forum where folks may have asked the same question in the past for a quick, more accurate answer?

Yes i understand completely trying to find empirally and fact based information on a form. But in this case it is easy but it actually cost money.
It called a Factory Service Manual or a service paid website like ALLDATA.
I pay 980.00 a year for the full service subscription. A monthly subscription one could down load hundreds of full service information or at least the one specifically for their platform. If anyone is a DIY and plans to keep their vehicle for more then5 years it is well worth the small investment.
He lazy and wanted the easy answer. In his own post did not want to pay for any service information that is available for his Mazda.

There is a BIG difference in someone wanting and asking for advice and help and someone that just states I know there is a service manual but I don't want to pay for what I can get for free.
Nuff of that going on ..............
And I help for FREE more people on forums with professionally and experienced advice second only to grime_reaper. So please no more lectures supporting free loaders!

Are you now a crusader?

If the DIY didn't know about the "maintenance mode" that tells me it will be much cheaper in long run for them to have a qualified technician, do it.

Not a crusader, but what is wrong is wrong and your interpretation of what is going on is dead wrong IMHO. You are a mechanic and own a repair shop. Of course you are going to pay (and write off on your taxes) the 1k a year for the info you mentioned. It isn't needed for a brake job though. If I wanted to spend a thousand to get a manual to do a DIY job, I might as well pay $200 and have it done at a shop, right? Why in the heck would a car owner pay so much for something he would barely use?

This seems to follow with your opinion of the secrecy of TSB's for public consumption.

In any event, this is another one we will just have to disagree on. I believe you are totally "off base" here. If you don't want to help, just don't post. No need to berate the guy for asking a reasonable question. I get that you do this for a living and likely feel it is taking away from money which a local mechanic could be making, but that is the car owners choice, correct?

I have not been a MECHANIC since the 70's early 80's!!!! Way more than that since then! rolmao
What do you do or have done for a living - Mazda Forum - Mazda Enthusiast Forums

If you read all the responses clearly and actually looked into ALLDATA you would have seen that you can but a 1 one subscription only. I NEVER said anyone had to pay for a 12 month FULL ACCESS subscription. hops do DIY generally wouldn't.

As for a crusader, what in any of your responses did you post something helpful to the OP? Nope but you did want to quote only my response. As you often post that you have the work done at a dealer or service shop not by yourself.
And No you still don't really like so many DIY understand TSB's.
I saw this on another thread you should watch the complete video!!!

While there are parts I don't agree with , I do not agree with 95% of his video. And even his followers feel and agree the same.
Pay attention TO HOW ECATACTLY AND ACURATELY he explains the use of TSB for service technician in the business and maybe you will get a clue as to why a DIY should not be using them. I had forgotten the negative aspect as a Tech about all the updates on a single TSB.

Until you start to do more work on your Mazda this type of thread asking for advise may not be suited for your response unless it is to advise a member to seek a service shop?

BTW....I NO longer own a service shop have not owned one in decades I have stated that a few times on this forum posted over the years I work in one that my friend owns in a management and Technical advisor capacity! However, I do get my hands occasionally dirty .

I am sure I will be responding in the sunroof thread with you and your vast knowledge of basic laws of physics, aero dynamics and it principles , structure analysis and auto glass manufacturing?
