Default All Mazda 2,2 diesel issues covered here..

In this thread, i hope we can cover all the issues with the Mazda 2.2 diesel, used in the CX5.

I've been reading all sorts of horrible things, about this engine. Over heating, blown head gasket, loose injectors, broken camshaft and so on..

And i was hoping, that people with the appropriate knowledge, can put together a complete list of all the common issues in this thread.
Maybe some issues are related to specific model years, maybe the engine got updated at some point, and some issues where addressed.. All the facts should be covered here...

OR maybe there's no need at all for this thread, if this engine had lots of serious issues across all production years? If that's the case, maybe this engine is just crap and should be avoided..

2012 - 2018 basically had the same engine.

2018 had a revised engine, which seams to be ok, if driven correctly - not good at continuous roundtown driving.

And the 2012-2018 engine is called SH-VPTS, right? What's the newer engine design called?

My opinion - Continuous roundtown driving should be avoided with any modern diesel. Not just Mazdas.

Really for any car. You need to get some highway driving and high revs every once in a while.

Yes, applies for every DPF equipped diesel engine, i guess.
