Default About To Purchase Mint 2022 CX-5 Signature w/ 2039 Miles

May happen tomorrow (Monday, 06-15) because the dealer and I have reached an agreement, but no money has changed hands yet.

It is a mint, inside and out 2022 Signature, Turbo engine beauty with only a few miles over 2,000. It was purchased new, but the owner had some kind of problem and was not able to drive very much. Also, it was fully serviced at the dealership when it only had 1,000 miles on it, even though it had hardly been driven.

It is a dealer and Mazda Corp. "Certified" vehicle, so it will come with a 100,000-mile/10-year warranty on the drive train, plus some other full coverage warranties that the dealer-ship will specify when I pick it up. The General Manager and his family have been close friends of my wife and me for over 30 years, and this is how I first learned of this low-mileage signature. He also knows the reason why it has such low mileage.

I am trading my 2018 CX-5, Grand Touring, that has 103,000 miles on the ODO. I have not had any problems with the 2018, and the only work done on it is regular maintenance every 7,500 miles, a new battery last year, windshield wiper blades last week, and one new set of tires 6 months ago. It now needs new brakes on the rear. The front brakes are good for another 15,000 to 20,000 miles according to the wear measurements, and of course, future driving style.

The only reason for trading is that I am getting a very, very good deal on a much newer car with hardly any mileage on it, not to mention a few nice additions in creature comforts that the Signature offers, such as the soft Napa leather seats as opposed to the hard, plastic-coated, hard leather of my Grand Sport. The seats of my Grand Sport have never been my favorite. In fact, the seating is much more comfortable in my 2016, MX-5 GT. I think that may be due to the Miata having true, body-hugging buckets. The turbo on the Signature is also a very nice feature since it will come in handy for our style of driving. We live in a very rural area of southern Arizona, and Interstate driving is about 85% compared to in-town driving.

The reason I am starting this thread is that I would like to hear from anyone who has experience with a Signature Turbo and can give me some info on your likes and dislikes. It's been quite a long while since I posted on this forum.

I have enjoyed my 2018 CX-5 immensely over the past 8 years and hope to have the same experience with the Signature.

Thanks for reading my overly long post.

David

Sounds like a really nice car. Curious as to what kind of a deal you're getting on it.

David Paul you are not obligated to state that personal information and based on what you posted it is a deal that only you would get based on your history with that dealership. And as you have more details included with your deal at the dealership which it is not just buying it out right is really no one business.
It reads like a GREAT deal! Congratulation!

Let's just say, I will be paying much less than KBB, Edmunds, and all other sources say the car's resale value is. In other words, there are 3 categories of deal types that I see in the ads on the internet based on selling prices of used cars, "Fair Deal', "Good Deal", and "Great Deal". If there was a category better than "Great Deal", that's where mine would be.

My question to any Forum members with CX-5 experience is; "What are the pros and cons of this vehicle"? I have had a fantastic experience with my 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring for the past 8 1/2 years and 103,000 miles.

My only concern with my current CX-5 is the fact that it is beginning to wear out like any other vehicle of this age and mileage. Also, it will be nice to have a like-new CX-5 that has perfect paint like my current CX-5 used to have. Of course, due to the fact that I live in a very rural area and am nearly 20 miles from civilization, dependability is a concern.

I have no fear that this CX-5 Signature with only 2,039 miles will not be reliable. However, I would like to hear from others who either own one like I am getting or have owned one in the past as to their experiences, good, bad, or ugly.

I believe it is a better-looking vehicle and has more comfortable seats due to the soft, Napa leather and being ventilated. I really dislike the flat black plastic on the body of my 2018 CX-5 and love the look of the Signature that has these parts finished in glossy paint to match the rest of the vehicle. There will be much less detailing work, not having to keep those flat black panels from having the "dead gray" look from the sun and weather.

I looked at the service records, and we have had 9 different 2022 CX5s in the shop, and all were generally service up-keep service like oil and filter services cabin filter and brakes. We did do 1 transmission pan filter and service change. And good thing it had 42k miles and the fluid was as we expected needing changed and the pan and magnet had the usual material that sinks in all Mazda transmission pans during the break in period.
You may see that Mazda claims or states no service needed but plainly regarding all the Mazda we see with transmission issues it is from not doing at least 2-3 pan and filter service in the first 100k miles.
When I am very concerned for regular customers about this practice and advise I tell them I will take a sample and if the analysis shows no concern, then you are good to go, and the analysis cost is on me. But if it shows anything other than that they have to pay for the analysis. To date in 7 years, we have never had to pay for a single engine oil or transmission oil analysis on any make and model vehcle.
Warranty or not preventive service is always wise.
The other thing that we do as a courtesy is scope the intake around the Turbocharger to see if there is any excessive oil film or any sorn of carbon. This would be the first indicator of future problematic Turbochargers. However, to date we have not had to change a Turbocharger on the 2022 CX5.

Thank you very much for your response. This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping to get.

It appears that the Mazda tubocharged engines are relatively trouble-free as long as proper maintenance is performed on a regular and timely basis.

I respect your wish to keep that to yourself. Sounds like you are getting a great vehicle. I have a 2023 PP, and absolutely love it.

Your very welcome
One of the things we offer for free is to help our customers determine if a dealer is making a fair deal. Also we have a complete vehicle inspection that is actually done by 2 different certified ASE mechanics and at least one ASE certified Diagnostic technic for. But that cost a little it is a 1.75 hour inspection and it uses to types of shop vehicle hoists. It also includes a download of pictures of any concerned area's.
Some on any used vehcle EXCEPT with less then 80k miles on the odometer.
I don't expect everyone to run to their local service shop for one, but I do advise to at least get the traditional 50- or 100-point cookie cutter generic inspection on a used vehicle that is outside the auto manufactures warranty.
