Yeah, IDK... So anyhow I just got off the phone with a tech from Batteries Plus. According to this individual I can get a 3-year warranty off the shelf battery for 215 bucks installed, I made the point of asking him if there was anything special that needed to be done while installing this battery. His response was no. LOL obviously previous mechanic did his diligence, obviously the shop owner needs some cash, individual from batteries Plus said nine times out of 10 they do the service on the vehicle and then they test the battery with all the doors open and whatnot Big draw. testing battery under these conditions u never get a accurate reading... That being said I'm never going back to the shop that quoted me $400 plus for a $220 battery...

Still not sure on the model Mazda mentioned by the OP where that info came from? Either it was misunderstood by the op likely) or the service mechanic working on his Mazda is not looking at the battery replacement information for that specific Mazda?
I say mechanic because an Automotive Technician can access the ECU and see charging rate voltage at load and no load very easily which would have answered the voltage to charge a battery question if thier was one?
I think really they are referring to setting the memory systems after a new battery is installed. But even the istop (if applicable) system only take a few minutes to perform and not a high technical difficulty. Even a DIY can perform the simple procedure.


Very interesting, this was also part of the conversation with individual from Batteries Plus. What you explained in a little more. He said according to what he's looking up in the database this vehicle does not call for AGM, and I totally understand not having a lead acid battery in vehicle passenger compartment, I believe I had a Volvo that had this in the backseat, also a Buick. But still at the end of the day just kind of mad with the servicer that did the oil change, + $200 really? If he would have said everything out the door for three I would have went for it. Oh well guess I'm going to spend my money with Batteries Plus.

While my Mazda is a 2018 The ECU charging tables are exactly the same. I run an AGM Optima RED with a Power Bastards 250amp total @1200RPM on demand with 125amp at idle . I did not need to adjust and calibration in the ECU charging table to run this setup.
There is no factory Mazda that needs anywhere close to this much charging power but I also do not have a factory sound system either.

If your Mazda has i-stop then there is a process to "programme" / learn the new battery to the vehicle.
