Default 2023 Factory Extended Warranty Options

Hi folks -

Took delivery of a new CX-5 in March and loving it!

The buying experience was less than ideal; ugly might be a better term. Had we been quoted a reasonable price, we might have actually bought the factory extended warranty.

Over in Honda-land, there are a couple of authorized dealers that will sell a factory extended warranty, after the fact, at a more reasonable price with quoted prices freely quoted on their forums.

Does anyone know of similar options here in Mazda-land; i.e., Mazda dealers offering after-sale factory extended warranties at fair prices?

Thanks!

If this is a 2023 turbo, you are more than likely safe without having the extended warranty.
* The 2018 to 2020 and possibly some 2021 Mazdas had the cracked cylinder problems.
and the Cylinder deactivation is still untested into high mileage. But if it's a turbo, you should be great on reliability and not need to worry.
Other than covering huge power train problems, extended warranties usually cost more than they are worth.
IMO, the extended warranty may be worth it for an untested new model, revised engine/tranny years or known defective years. Otherwise enjoy the reliability of your vehicle.

Extended warranties , there are NO guarantee about any platform or model regardless if they are brand new model if you would need them. If anyone tells you other wise they are asking the black 8 ball the question to post an answer! On the internet you are not going to find and read anywhere near as many positive responses about any topic as you would a negative experience. Thats just the way humans are share the grief above the pleasure.
\In my line of business I would say its about 50/50 for those that got the extended warranty ever using them. But those that did seem to always post they were happy they did. Now this was also from people that knew they were going to own the vehicle more then 5-7 years and 100K miles.

I will say again in this day in time in manufacturing of new vehicle's you don't need to worry about first year models as you did a few decades ago. Talk to professionals in the service world and they all will I am certain tell you the same thing!

Or if in doubt use what many do and never tell you.... ask the 8 Ball.. LOL

Default Most profitable thing sold at dealership

Mazda quality is pretty good ,and the factory warrantee is all you need . With proper service , chances are very good there will be no need for an extended warrantee . Extended warrantee's are the single most profitable item the dealer has. You are far better off saving the money ,and forgoing an extended warrantee.

Ya lets look at a single item. Warraty is over @ 100k on the transmission that the factory says Lifetime no service. Transmisson fails just after basic warranty from Mazda average cost of replacement transmission 4-6 +thousand dollars. ECU fails, after Mazda warranty if they are available new 2+ thousand dollars to replace new.

If you do no work on your vehicle as a DIY and only rely on the basic service needs than you IMHO should strongly consider the factory extended warranty coverage if you plan on keeping your MAZDA past the warranty of ech miles or years coverage.

I would also recommend that anyone that is asking on a forum advise about any insurance to talk to the people who are offering them and get details and ask them the questions. Every individual has different needs!

Cool

Why would someone purchase an extended warranty for a new vehicle which is already fully covered for the first three years? You’d be paying twice for the first three years of coverage. Why not wait until the factory warranty is up and then get a good aftermarket (or factory if available) warranty?

Excellent question! I say the same thing. My advice is to take the money you were going to spend on the warranty and put in a car service savings account. Then you know you will get the full value of the money put into it. Sure, you could be lucky enough to get the better of the warranty company, but I look at an extended warranty as a gambling proposition. The house (the warranty provider) rarely loses. If they did, they wouldn't be in business very long, would they?

I would agree with Carp and 19.
I have never bought an "upfront" extended warranty on a new vehicle.
Most extended warranties are simply not worth the cost/gamble unless you're a consistent lottery player or Casino visitor.
I've only purchased one extended warranty in my life for anything and that was for my son's used car purchase for college.
He bought the car and I paid for the warranty so he would not have to worry about anything but his studies, should something go wrong.
The transmission failed just before finals, and everything was taken care of from picking the car up to fixing it and bringing it back to him for no additional charges.
And I can tell you it played at least a small part in him being an honor graduate.
They are a very expensive "insurance" and the tricky part of extended warranties is getting the correct one for your situation and that varies with every area, dealer and company that offers them.

For the RECORD I have never purchased an extended WARRATY.
I will state that when it was offered to me it started when the factory WARRATY expired. I think most are like that?
I get offers at least every week talking about my factory warranty going to expire and to get an EXTENDED WARRATY.
I do frequently work on (customers) vehicle's that their factory warranty had just expired, and the customers wished then they had purchased the extended warranty.
Accordingly I asked a business attorney once about them and he said you have to read carefully exactly what the warranty does cover in detail!

I will also add that as your Mazda or any other vehicle is very close to its warranty expiring to get your vehicle completely inspected from the dealer. And if you intend to keep the car longer it may even be a good idea to have it independently inspected. If there is anything questionable that would be the time to get it taken care of. Or buy an extended warranty plan. LOL

Don't worry I wont be perusing this thread... I only put my information based on pissed off people that had to $$$$$ on repairs because their vehicle just went out of factory warranty!!!!

Anyone waiting to change/service the Transmission until 100000 miles is just asking for trouble. IMHO the trans fluid and filter should be changed every 40000 miles or 4 years as well as the coolant and thermostat ,inspecting the hoses and replacing as needed. Brake fluid should be also changed at 40000 or 4 years or sooner in a humid /wet climate .It goes without saying the oil and filter should be changed with proper spec synthetic oil and filter at 5000 miles or less. I have no clue why Mazda would claim the trans service/fluid is life time ,other than they may want it to fail and cause you to purchase a new vehicle. Spend the money on proper service by a competent tech/mechanic ,and you more than likely won't need an extended warrantee. We had a 2005 Chevy HHR we used as a loner car we bought used with 26000 miles on it from Enterprise that we serviced properly and it was running great with the original trans and motor at 286000 miles and 10 years old and if it wasn't totaled in a crash by a customers drunk son ,it may still be running . True story , now it had it's share of power steering rack ,alternator, starter ,AC problems and power window failures ,but that was a common problem with HHR's .
